We LOVE what we do...

…which is helping YOU dream and design the perfect space.

Canterbury Cottage opened its doors in the winter of 1996 in a quaint cape cod home in Jenison, Michigan. It was formally owned by Mr. Al VanderWerf who loved to come through and see what we had done to his home and how we transformed it into a store. We filled it from top to bottom! From the upstairs, with the darling dormers, to the main floor that had beautiful wood floors, cozy fireplace, curved stairway, and enclosed porch which we filled every inch with our furniture and accessories.

Since then, a lot has changed! After we survived the economy recession, we opened up in downtown Holland in the spring of 2009. As much as we loved Jenison it has been a real joy to be part the charm and unique qualities that create the desirable downtown Holland. Fast forward a decade and we outgrew our 48 E 8th St. location and expanded just blocks away at 44 W 8th St. Not only does this new location give us the space to help our clients visualize and create their perfect space but it also grants us a broader canvas to enlighten our guests with amazing products from hundreds of vendors. Our team loves to talk to those who come in as they look for a particular piece for their home or are looking to redo an entire space. Being nestled in such a vibrant community brings visitors from near and far and we love being able to take time to get to know them and hear their stories.

DREAM

“Light and Airy.” “Country Cottage.” “Contemporary Chic.” Each of our clients come in with some dream of the space they want to create. Our joy is listening and collaborating with them to bring it to life. During this process we hope to build lasting, trusting relationships . In the end we want you to love the end result as well as enjoy the process with us.

DESIGN

Taking the dreams and putting them into design plans is what our designers live to do. Their extensive combined knowledge and experience ensures we have the intuitiveness to carryout the personalized dreams for your project, from new home, second home, workspace or more. Every space tells a story and our passion to help you write it well.

DELIVER

We are committed to seeing the dream into reality by walking with our clients through delivery and installation. We know that the dreaming and designing parts of a project can be fun and exciting but delivery and installation can be less exciting, but we want to make it a little more fun by adding some final touches, accessories, rugs and more!

Cindy Height

Our owner, Cindy Haight, founded Canterbury Cottage over 25 years ago as she wanted to help financially while her boys were in school by making custom floral and dried floral arrangements, selling them at craft shows around the state. As demand grew, her talents followed. Soon she opened her first shop in Jenison, MI and began the official journey of Canterbury Cottage. After several years in Jension an opportunity to move into Downtown Holland was to good to pass up and allowed her to expand into more home furnishings, women’s clothing & accessories, jewelry and children’s clothing, which led to Canterbury Cottage & Kids. Over the years in Holland the business continued to grow and they became known for their interior design abilities which eventually led to opening their second location, Canterbury Cottage Interiors just blocks away in a new build. The new location offers furnishings, flooring selections, artwork and our design center for custom furniture. Our design staff has worked on various projects throughout West Michigan, including some Parade Homes.
